About

Hayashi–Grossschmidt Arhitektuur (HGA) is a Tallinn-based architectural office that designs spatial experiences on various scales – from exhibition designs to urban planning – reflecting the historical, cultural, and social context of the location. The partners are Estonian Hanno Grossschmidt and Japanese Tomomi Hayashi, whose successful collaboration was recognized with the Young Architect Award in 2010.

In the Estonian National Museum (2016) project, they worked as the local architect with the Dorell.Ghotmeh.Tane Architects team, responsible for the design and construction supervision. In addition to designing new buildings, HGA has extensive experience with heritage transformation and adaptive reuse projects, including: Rotermann's Old and New Flour Storage (2009), the reconstruction of the A.M. Luther Furniture Factory's Machinery Hall (2017).

Currently, they are also working on significant urban development projects: the reconstruction of the Patarei sea fortress, the Hippodrome business quarter development, and the development of the former Luther furniture factory quarter.
