Tokumaru Takeaway

The Tokumaru Takeaway was designed to create a direct, barrier-free customer experience. Instead of a traditional counter layout, the entire space is open for movement and interaction, making the relationship between staff and guests natural and equal. Direct contact with the chef highlights the value of freshly prepared food.

At the heart of the space is a sculptural counter that showcases the dishes like the star of the stage. The challenging proportions of the small, narrow, and tall room were turned into strengths: shelving draws the eye upward, while a low paper ceiling creates a warm and intimate atmosphere.

As a continuation of the nearby Tokumaru restaurant, the space is visually tied together by the familiar paper ceiling lighting. Additional seating, added after opening, reflects guests’ desire to dine on site and has become a lively part of the space itself.

The design places guests and staff on the same level – a friendly, fresh, and contemporary approach to the dining experience.
