The competition brief called for the design of a new beach building to support the year-round and flexible use of Stroomi Beach – one of the most popular beaches in North Tallinn.
Stroomi Beach and park form an important recreational center whose value lies in its spaciousness, diversity, and natural environment. This self-organizing, subculture-tolerant, and direct area balances the artificiality of the Pelguranna residential district and offers a counterweight to the gentrifying part of the Kopli peninsula.
The concept design 'Rannahoov' (Beach Yard) consists of five yards and two two-story café and restaurant buildings. A new promenade winds between the yards, offering varied views, activities, and spatial experiences. A colonnade-canopy articulates and connects the area, accommodating various functions: changing cabins, showers, kiosks, a reading corner, charging points, and other seasonal elements.
The goal of the landscape architecture is to support the restoration of local vegetation and to address the problems of sand erosion and spring flooding.
